The short version: this store sells art made by artists working in solidarity with movements in the Global South. We came together for this project after hosting local fundraisers, selling on Instagram, and trying other ways to scrounge up funds for revolutionary efforts. We believe that those who suffer the most under imperialism will be the ones to defeat it. This philosophy drives our work.

What is this project, really?

This project is made by a group of activists committed to advancing the international struggle for communism and against racial capitalism, colonialism, white supremacy and imperialism. We believe in world revolution and we believe that everyone has a role to play– especially those of us in the imperial core broadly but in the u.s. in particular. Here, we are living in the heart of an empire that dominates most of the global population; an empire that has only ever exported death and suffering and in return plundered immense wealth from countries condemned to ‘underdevelopment’. Since its ascension as undisputed leader of the capitalist world following the Second World War, a long period of class peace has ensued allowing for ‘class struggle’ to take the form of class collaboration by the mainstream amerikan labor movement. Of course, we must also stress that these imperial superprofits have been redistributed unequally and in line with the empire’s history of settler colonialism, slavery and apartheid. However, the very position of the u.s. empire allows for an unsustainable and exploitative way of life to be enjoyed by the majority of citizens, bourgeois and proletarian alike. We call this the imperial mode of living. With this state of affairs, revolutionary struggle, as it is popularly conceived, is foreclosed upon. There will be no working class rebellion in the united states. The workers here have far more to lose than simply their chains. The first world proletarian experiences a double existence, both as exploited laborer and exploiting consumer. Simply put, class struggle in the core is about how the distribution of the empire’s loot will be sorted. Yet, we also know that class relations are anything but static and that the end of this historical period draws ever closer, but is not quiet upon us yet. In light of that cold reality our task becomes to figure out what we can do to hasten the closing of this epoch. Our outlook and work has been undeniably influenced by the Marxist Third-Worldist tradition; leading us not to despair and defeatism, but to find a way forward, grounded in the concrete conditions we find ourselves in. One must remember that the international communist movement is global in scope. We believe that imperialism will break at its weakest points and we take very seriously our internationalist duty to support anti-imperialist struggles the world over. We depart from the premise that ‘solidarity is something you can hold in your hands’, that is to say, that solidarity is something material, not simply a declaration of support or slogan. It is the purpose and aim of this project to raise funds for organizations around the world who share our vision for a world free from exploitation, war and domination.
